PRE-PRIMARY (GRADES 000 - 00)

Our Pre-Primary is a place where we encourage our children to develop into young dynamic little people. We provide a safe and secure environment where we focus on developing the whole child. Each area of development is considered vital for them to become all that they can be. A busy day is spent by the children exploring all areas. Play is an essential part of a child's growth and we therefore pay an enormous focus on encouraging and developing the children's imaginative play. Through play a child learns what no one else can teach him.

We focus on a theme each term, which we slowly build on. Outings play an important role in helping to consolidate what the children have learnt and they are always thoroughly enjoyed by all.

It is important to us that each child feels part of the Umhlanga College family, which is why we have many family get-togethers during the year. We want our children to feel that school is a home away from home.

It is difficult to describe what happens in a day because no day is ever the same, which is why Pre School is so much fun. We offer Playball and Swimming and Music on top of the average day, as well as extra mural activities:- Judo, Music, Drama, Art, Body Gym (we use a programme designed by an O.T.) and Ball skills.

We take our little ones to whole school assembly at the end of the week in the hall where they have a turn to tell news to the school. This is always the highlight of the week. We pride ourselves in being unique and being able to offer a curriculum that not only extends the child but also helps to prepare them for life.
