2011 Review

2011 was a watershed year for Umhlanga College. After many years of ongoing discussion, in December 2011 an agreement was reached with Durban Girl's College on the Independence of Umhlanga College.

The importance of this was two-fold, independence would create better opportunities to develop the existing Preschool, Junior and Senior Primary and the vision for a high school could start to become a reality.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mr. and Mrs. Muir, our benefactors, for their unwavering support and very generous financial contribution.

Independence, however, was not the only cause for excitement in 2011... the parents association took on the formidable task of fundraising for an Astroturf.

What seemed like an ambitious goal in January 2011, soon became an incredible reality as we opened our Astroturf for use in January 2012.

The budgeted cost of R698k was almost completely covered by fundraising initiatives (R212k carried over from 2010)
