Umhlanga College Music Department
Umhlanga College offers a dynamic and diverse music department. Children are introduced to the basic theory of music and its related musical dynamics. All children are taught to play the recorder and are encouraged to participate in our well-known choir. Music and choir evenings take place on a regular basis with the focus being on participation and the love of music. An exciting new addition to the department is the introduction of our marimbas and our marimba band. Private piano, flute, voice and violin lessons are offered on campus. The music department's main focus is to instill a love of music in each child at the school.
Umhlanga College Drama Department
Umhlanga College offers an extensive Drama programme where students are taught the skills of movement, drama and singing. Acting skills involve improvisation, reciting poetry, choral verse, mime, stage work, voice projection and the theory of good speech. Movement lessons involve learning to work as a group, the co-ordination of body movements and how movement assists one in the acting process. Singing is taught in music lessons and incorporated into the drama lessons, as an integral part of stage work. Productions and show casing the work of our students, is a very important part of the syllabus. Our aim is to develop our students' confidence, learn life skills and work as a team!
